The Builder’s Club is having a friendly competition among the homerooms, asking students to bring in non-perishables and canned goods to be donated to the food pantry before Thanksgiving. We will begin this collection on Monday, 11/14 until Tuesday 11/22. The homeroom that collects the most items will be rewarded with a pizza party lunch!
In addition, the builder’s club has been assisting with the Art Heals project where art supplies are being collected and donated to hospitals to lift the spirits of sick children. Club members have provided an incentive for donations via raffle tickets and the promise of a prize and collect items every day until the end of the month of November.
Thursday November 17th students are asked to wear blue in support of Grief Awareness Day. All day, TJHS will be showing support for children coping with the loss of a loved one. Craft tables will be set up in the cafeteria during lunch and Jon from the Highmark Caring Place will be here to give a brief presentation.
Friday and Saturday November 18 th and 19t h , builder’s club members are asked to take part in a service project in the CJEMS building. Friday, we need volunteers to help sort food donations between 6-8pm. Saturday, we need volunteers to help hand out food and carry loaded boxes to vehicles between 10am-12pm.
This December, the builder’s club will be accompanying the TJHS choir to the local nursing home to spread cheer and holiday joy to the residents. Students will make cards and hand out holiday treats.

The Tuscarora Junior High Builders Club has been given recognition as a Distinguished Club by Kiwanis International. They are one of just a few of the 1500 Builders Clubs in the state of Pennsylvania who received the award. The recognition is based upon several criteria including how the club conducts their club business, how many service projects they do, how they serve their school, and how they spend the money they they raise.
The photo shows Richard Burkholder from the Kiwanis Club of Juniata County presenting the club’s certificate of recognition to Caren Mann, the faculty advisor of the Builders Club. Several of the eighty club members are also shown. Principal Aaron Bennett is on the left and Assistance Principal Clint Mitchell is on the right. Both administrators support the efforts of the builders club and are proud of their accomplishments. Support Staffer Kim Dressler who volunteers help with the club’s projects is standing behind Mr. Mitchell.
The Kiwanis Club of Juniata County sponsors this Builders Club and Key Clubs of East Juniata High School and Juniata High School. More than 150 students are involved in the work of these service clubs.
